RLL Assessment Test
Dear Students of Romance Languages (French, Italian or Spanish):
Every semester the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures collects data to help us assess students' progress at each level of French, Italian, and Spanish. The same data that allows us to substantiate the success of our language programs to evaluators outside Washington University also allows us to provide a self-assessment tool for our students.
How does this data collection work?
We require that all students assess their language proficiency when they have nearly completed a specific course level. The data that we assemble from the online RLL Assessment Test will be useful to us in evaluating our programs. It will also allow us to provide feedback to you, helping you to assess your individual strengths and weaknesses in reading, writing, listening, and speaking the language you are studying.
How does the RLL Assessment Test work?
First, please select the language and corresponding course in which you are currently enrolled. Instructions will then be provided for each skill.
Note that there is no right or wrong answer to the questions on the RLL Assessment Test. Moreover, the results from this test will not affect your ability to enroll in a higher level course; advancement to the next class is based on your performance in your current course as assessed by your professor.
Thank you very much for your participation.
Regards,
Professor Marisa BarrĂ¡gan-Peugnet
Systems Coordinator of Online Placement and Assessment
Associate Professor of Spanish and Applied Linguistics
