Dr. Markus Cruse is a scholar exploring the relationship between writing, performance, travel, and material culture in the Global Middle Ages and early modern period. He is the author of Illuminating the Roman d'Alexandre (Oxford, Bodleian Library, MS Bodley 264): The Manuscript as Monument, as well as the forthcoming monograph The Mongol Archive in Late Medieval France: Texts, Objects, Encounters, 1221-1422, which is the first comprehensive history of contact between France and the Mongols.
