Associate or Full Professor in Latinx Performance Studies
The Performing Arts Department (PAD) and the Department of Romance Languages & Literatures (RLL) invite applications for an Associate or Full Professor in the area of Latinx Performance Studies with a focus on race and ethnicity, to begin fall 2022. We seek an accomplished scholar or scholar-artist who examines the performance practices and cultural forms of Latinx communities, with particular attention to the experience of race and ethnicity in the United States. Diasporic and hemispheric approaches to Latinx performance cultures and traditions are also welcome. Responsibilities include publishing scholarly research and, if applicable, conducting creative research; developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses; advising and mentoring a diverse student body; and other duties assigned by the University. The teaching load is two courses per semester. Ideal candidates will offer courses that expand the curricula of both units, and contribute their expertise to existing curricular offerings in each (including arts practice courses in PAD, as appropriate). The position comes with a 75% appointment in PAD and a 25% appointment in RLL.
PAD and RLL are part of a vibrant community of scholars and artists within the College of Arts & Sciences whose research and teaching are at the forefront of advancing the humanities at the University. In addition to the joint appointment in PAD and RLL, this position offers opportunities to collaborate with colleagues in interdisciplinary programs across the University such as the Latin American Studies Program, Global Studies, American Culture Studies, and the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts, as well as research centers such as the Center for the Humanities, and the Center for Race, Ethnicity & Equity (CRE2)—all of which foster innovative research and the design of next-generation learning experiences. This position has been funded through the Provost’s Race and Ethnicity Cluster Hire Initiative and is part of Washington University’s commitment to build a world-class research program on race and ethnicity.
Diversity and Inclusion are core values at Washington University, and the strong candidate will demonstrate the ability to create inclusive classrooms and environments in which a diverse array of students can learn and thrive.
