Juan Manuel Ramírez Velázquez Wins Research Fellowship at the University of Tulsa

The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures congratulates Hispanic Studies graduate student Juan Manuel Ramírez Velázquez on winning a 2020-2021 Short-Time research fellowship at the Helmerich Center for American Research at the University of Tulsa.

Juanma, as he is known within the department, will be conducting archival research on the Spanish Colonial Manuscript Collection (Conway), which contains thousands of archival documents about different matters in New Spain (colonial Mexico). Additionally, he will be participating in the intellectual life at the University of Tulsa and at the Center for American Research. “I really hope that I can start working at the Helmerich very soon because the archival documents that I’ll be transcribing and studying there will be paramount to conceptualize and create a foundation for my dissertation,” he explains.

Ramírez Velázquez is one of five recipients of the Helmerich Center’s short-term fellowships for the 2020-21 academic year.
