Paco Tijerina is a fifth-year Ph.D. candidate in the Hispanic Studies program with a graduate certificate in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and a McDonnell Academy Scholar. He earned a B.A. in Communication and Digital Media with a certificate in Journalism and a M.A. in Humanistic Studies with a specialization in Literature and Discourse at Tec de Monterrey.
At Washington University in St. Louis, he has organized events with contemporary Latin American authors such as Tere Dávila, Roque Raquel Salas Rivera, and Verónica Gerber Bicecci. Since 2022 he is the co-convener of the Gender and Sexuality in Contemporary Latin American Literature Reading Group. He also served as Editorial Assistant for the Revista de Estudios Hispánicos (2022-2023). He has taught a diverse range of courses in departments such as Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Spanish, and Latin American Studies.
His current research project focuses on the representation of the effects of mineral extraction on bodies through contemporary Mexican fiction. His latest article “La crisis del capital en dos energoficciones contemporáneas…” was published in De Raíz Diversa: Revista Especializada en Estudios Latinoamericanos. He has two more upcoming articles to be published later in 2024.
