The Frontlines of Peace, a conversation with Séverine Autesserre

In The Frontlines of Peace, Séverine Autesserre examines the well-intentioned but inherently flawed peace industry. With examples drawn from across the globe, she reveals that peace can grow in the most unlikely circumstances. Contrary to what most politicians preach, building peace doesn’t require billions in aid or massive international interventions. Real, lasting peace requires giving power to local citizens.

Educated in France (Sorbonne, Sciences Po) and the US (Yale U), Séverine Auteserre writes about war and peace, peacebuilding, peacekeeping, humanitarian aid, and the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo. She is a Professor of Political Science at Barnard College, Columbia University (New York, US), where she specializes in international relations and African studies.

Moderator: William G. Nomikos is Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Washington University in St Louis (in English)
