Interdisciplinary Studies in French
Literature, Art & Science
Interdisciplinary studies are the hallmark of our program. Our seminars combine the study of French literature with French politics, philosophy, and theory as these engage the arts, science and medicine, and film. Our courses examine the articulation and transmission of knowledge and power as court spectacle, as a process of discovery, and as an articulation of the relations between things as they are molded by new technologies.
Investigating topics such as the notion of cure , the art and science of perspective, and contribution of the arts to political revolution, the notion of reason as the source of legitimacy and authority and freedom, the interdisciplinary focus on literature, science, and art considerably broadens our notion of cultural legacy.
