Maëlle Zemirline (she/her) is a PhD student in French literature at WashU and pursuing a graduate certificate in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. She interested in postcolonial and feminist works, with her research primarily focusing on Francophone texts and films from North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Caribbean.
Maëlle earned a BA and MA in English literature from the Université du Mans in France, followed by the Agrégation in English literature from the French Ministry of Education. She obtained a second MA in French literature from the University of Missouri, Columbia, where her thesis explored the intersection of gender, class, and race in postcolonial cinema, particularly in films representing women’s domestic labor.
Outside of academic work, Maëlle enjoys being in nature and traveling, especially to hike in moutainous regions. You may find her walking to campus or in Forest Park, as well as exercising at the Rec Center.
