The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures congratulates Javier García-Liendo on his promotion to Associate Professor with Tenure. Professor García-Liendo joined RLL in 2012 and specializes in Andean literatures and cultures, the work of José María Arguedas, Latin American cultural and intellectual history, material culture, popular culture, literary criticism, and cultural studies. He published El intelectual y la cultura de masas: Argumentos latinoamericanos en torno a Ángel Rama y José María Arguedas and edited Migración y frontera: Experiencias culturas en la literatura peruano del siglo XX in 2017. García-Liendo has also served as the Editorial Associate for the department’s academic journal, the Revista de Estudios Hispánicos and is currently the Director of Undergraduate Studies in Spanish. This semester, he is teaching Spanish 380 Topics in Hispanic Cultures, Imagining the Andes: Ethnicity, Modernity and Human Rights in Peru, Spanish 537 The Production of Culture: Jose Maria Arguedas and the Migrating Andes, and runs the Peru Andean Studies Program in the summer. Javier has been an invaluable member of this department, and we are overjoyed that he has received tenure here at Washington University.
