Prof. Sánchez Prado Installed as Jarvis Thurston & Mona Van Duyn Professor in the Humanities

The Department of Romance Languages and Literatures congratulates Professor Ignacio Sánchez Prado on his recent installation as the Jarvis Thurston and Mona Van Duyn Professor in the Humanities.

Professor Sánchez Prado (or Nacho, as he is known in the department) is a Professor of Spanish, Latin American Studies, and Film and Media Studies, as well as the Director of Undergraduate Studies for the Latin American Studies program. Nacho came to Wash U in 2006, and he has since received the Distinguished Teaching Award from Arts & Sciences. His research focuses on the development of cultural institutions in Mexico, particularly related to literature, cinema, popular culture, and gastronomy. He has published prolifically, and received awards including Best Book and Scholarly Article from the Latin American Studies Association (LASA) Mexico Section.

The Jarvis Thurston and Mona Van Duyn Professorship in the Humanities in Arts & Sciences was created as a result of a 1997 gift from the Danforth Foundation to support professorships in the humanities. This professorship is one of four that honor distinguished individuals who formerly have served on the humanities faculty at Washington University.
